Research Survey Overview – Mpumalanga

Gauteng – bringing excellence to the fore

 

 

PMR.africa has completed its annual, provincial survey on the Mpumalanga Province. The purpose of the survey is:

  • to profile Mpumalanga Province as a growth point and potential investment area for foreign and local developers and investors;
  • to measure companies, institutions, Government entities and individuals on their contribution to the economic growth and development of the Province, managerial expertise and levels of corporate governance;
  • to measure businesses, institutions and Government entities’ competencies; and
  • to measure brand awareness.

The ratings are based on the perceptions of the respondents. 4 206 ratings and nominations were sourced.

 

Section 1: The respondents were asked to nominate and rate:

  • companies and institutions doing most in their respective sectors over the past 12 months to stimulate Mpumalanga’s economic growth and development and also which demonstrated exceptional managerial and corporate governance qualities during the same period;
  • the best ad campaigns;
  • the best agricultural projects;
  • the best shopping centres;
  • the best eco-tourism projects;
  • the most impressive new property developments;
  • the most exciting/interesting heritage sites and/or historical buildings;
  • companies, institutions and NGOs doing most in the past 12 months to enhance tourism and conservation, fight HIV/Aids, fight crime, promote arts and culture, promote sustainable development and protect the environment;
  • companies, institutions and Provincial Government Departments doing most to enhance tourism and conservation;
  • companies and institutions held in high esteem as good corporate citizens based on their corporate social responsibility initiatives and investments over the past 12 months;
  • most effective police stations; and
  • business persons deserving special recognition for outstanding service and contribution to the Province’s economy over the past 12 months.

 

Finalists are those companies who made the cut-off criteria of being rated by at least 10% f the sub-sample in each category (with a minimum of 3 ratings) and with a minimum overall rating of 3.40 out of 5.00:

 

Section 2: The respondents were asked to nominate and rate:

  • casinos and entertainment centres;
  • executive guest houses;
  • executive hotels (4 and 5 stars);
  • executive restaurants;
  • golf courses;
  • holiday resorts;
  • national parks and game reserves; and
  • private game farms and parks.

 

Finalists are the companies who made the cut-off criteria of being rated by at least 10% of the sub-sample in each category (with a minimum of 3 ratings) and with a minimum overall rating of 3.40 out of 5.

 

Section 3: Respondents were asked to nominate and rate Provincial Government Departments:

  • doing most to accelerate service delivery;
  • doing most overall for prosperity and growth;
  • that have been most effective in achieving their goals over the past 12 months;
  • providing the best customer service to the public; and
  • doing most to eradicate poverty.

 

All cities and towns/individuals below met the cut-off criteria of being nominated by at least 10% of the subsample. Section 4: Respondents were asked to nominate and rate cities and towns doing most: for social upliftment; to attract foreign investment; to attract local investment; to attract tourism; for job creation; and to fight crime. How the survey was conducted

Universe: Large and medium-sized companies, and Local and Provincial Government
Departments in Mpumalanga Province.
Timing: Interviews were conducted during June, July and August 2008.
Sample: Comprising of business owners, MD ’s, CEO ’s, company directors, senior
Government officials representing Provincial and Local Government in Mpumalanga Province.
Methodology: Interviews were carried out telephonically utilising semi-structured
questionnaires. Back-checks were conducted at all stages of the fieldwork,
response coding, data capture and analysis.
