Research Survey Overview – State-Owned Enterprises In South Africa
State-owned enterprises fulfilling their mandate
PMR.africa has completed its annual, national survey on State-Owned Enterprises (SOE ’s) in South Africa.
The respondents rated the SOE ’s across a range of 19 attributes, namely:
- accelerating BEE;
- accountability;
- contributing to South Africa’s readiness to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup;
- contribution to counter HIV/Aids;
- contribution to Nepad;
- corporate governance;
- corporate social investment (CSI);
- effective partnerships;
- employment equity;
- fighting/eradicating poverty;
- financial management and control;
- fulfilling their mandate as set out by National Government;
- implementation of policy;
- improvement of quality of life of people in the region;
- promoting the Accelerated Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (ASGISA);
- risk management assessment;
- sustainable business practices;
- transparency; and
- women empowerment and development.
The ratings are based on the perceptions of the respondents.

Research Report

How the survey was conducted
Universe: Listed and large companies, National, Provincial and Local Government.
Timing: Interviews were conducted during June, July and August 2008.
Sample: A random, national sample of 100 respondents comprising of CEO s, MDs, directors general representing National Government, senior Government officials representing Provincial and Local Government, economists and analysts.
Methodology: Interviews were carried out telephonically utilising semi-structured questionnaires. Back-checks were conducted at all stages of the fieldwork. 100% checked on input quality and completeness. |
