All new Eos
With
a history of more than one million Volkswagen convertibles of
the Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Golf and new Beetle series, the all
new Eos was launched in Europe in May 2006.
The Eos, Volkswagen’s all-new convertible coupé, is named
after the Greek Goddess of the Dawn. In Greek mythology, this
goddess arises every morning on her horse-drawn chariot out of
the depths of the sea to bring daylight to the world.
The Eos, a 4-seater, convertible fastback, is a light catcher
of a very special kind. “It plays with light, shadows, and
reflections – a central quality of good design,” said Murat Günak,
the Chief Designer of the Volkswagen Group responsible for this
groundbreaking design.
Equipped with a five piece convertible, sliding and coupé
roof, (CSC Roof) the all new Eos presents a totally new motoring
lifestyle opportunity.
The CSC roof opens or closes completely within 25 seconds and
offers both technical and aesthetic finesse.
A button between the two front seats triggers the mechanism
that essentially defines the concept and character of this
convertible coupe.
When closed, the CSC roof curves in an arch between the rear
and the windscreen. This creates an outstanding coupé roof,
elegant and sporty.
With the roof open, it is obvious that the Eos was
specifically designed as a convertible coupé and that it’s body
work design does not derive from any existing model.
The five section CSC structure offers not only visual, but
also practical advantages. Firstly, the pure convertible
feeling. Secondly, easy entry and exit. Thirdly, the integrated
CSC roof of the Eos captures light, air and an ambiance to suit
any mood or weather condition. In a nutshell, the CSC roof
offers all year round motoring suitability as well as seasonal
adaptability!
Needless to say, the hard shell makes life tougher for
vandals and thieves!
In terms of the interior, the air conditioning system was
specially designed for a convertible configuration. An RCD 300
radio CD combination is standard, as is leather trim.
With the roof open the available boot space is 205l and when
the roof is closed, the volume increases to 380l.
Options include 17 inch alloy wheels, a 6-disc CD system
located in the armrest, satellite navigation, multifunction
steering wheel, removable and lockable tow bar, park distance
control, xenon headlights, “burr walnut” decorative inserts.
The Eos is making its debut in South Africa at Auto Africa
2006. It will be available to the South African motorist towards
the end of the first quarter 2007.
Indicative pricing and engine configurations available in
South Africa are as follows -
2l 110 kW FSI – R311.000
2l 147 kW TFSI – R350.500
2l 147 kW TFSI DSG – R364.000 (inclusive)
The Eos is two cars in one – a convertible and a coupé -
without compromise. It will offer the discerning motorist
another dimension to motoring quality of life. |
