Auto Africa sees the debut of the new Chevrolet Lumina SS, with 270 kW of V8 power produced by a new generation 6,0 litre alloy lightweight V8 engine. Sheer power and undiluted performance are hallmarks of the new Lumina.

For this newest generation muscle car General Motors has mated the latest in automotive technology with the tradition of a large V8 engine. The result is all the raw power you would expect tempered by a degree of refinement that provides a responsive an enjoyable driving experience.

New inside and out, the Lumina offers stylish and dynamic lines that provide a bold presence. The sporty nature of this driver’s car is emphasised by the front air dam and rear spoiler that smooth the airflow over the vehicle. Striking 18 inch alloy wheels complete the exterior styling package.

At the core of the new Lumina SS from Chevrolet is a latest generation 6,0 litre Chevy V8 with multipoint fuel injection that produces a healthy 270 kW at 5 700 r/min. Torque is a massive 530 Nm produced at 4 400 r/min. Buyers have a choice of either manual or electronic control automatic transmission – both 6-speed units. Contact with the road is provided by 245/45 R18 tyres mounted on 18X8” alloy wheels. Traction control and ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) assist in feeding the power through to the road smoothly and without the loss of traction under heavy acceleration.

The sporty nature of the Lumina SS is complemented by a comprehensive list of luxury features. Climate control air conditioning; power windows; power steering; lumbar support adjustment for both driver and passenger seats; 4- way power adjustable driver seat, and cruise control are all standard features. Remote boot and fuel flap releases are provided, with the boot release mounted in the glove box.

Remote central locking is standard as is an alarm system with panic alarm feature. A transponder immobiliser system provides anti-theft protection.

The audio package consists of an in-dash 6-CD changer with seek and scan feature and RDS radio. A high performance amplifier drives the speakers while steering wheel mounted satellite controls provide for easy tuning and adjustment by the driver. The system is Bluetooth cellular compatible.

The safety package includes ABS brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution. These are linked to the Electronic Stability Programme and Traction Control systems for a full suite of electronic driver aids.

The driver and front seat passenger are protected by frontal and thorax airbags while full length curtain airbags provide protection for both front and rear sections of the cab in the event of a side on impact. Seat belt pre-tensioners are fitted to the front seats. Child seat anchorage points are provided.

The Chevrolet Lumina SS is covered by a 3 yr/100 000 km warranty with Roadside Assistance. Service intervals are 10 000 km/1yr.
